On December 25, 1985, a small group of brothers and sisters of Alpha
Phi Omega namely Ely Samaniego, Francis Samaniego, Belinda Alcopra,
Jeanette Cellona and Rolex Ocampo gathered together to celebrate the
60th Anniversary of APO. Because of their leadership, friendship and
service, Alpha Phi Omega Alumni Association of Toronto, Canada was
born. The words spread like fire through friends. They met another
group headed by Ed Failanga, Jimmy Alino and Ed Teguibon. In November
1986, the first general meeting was held and election was proposed at
Ed Failanga's residence. The first set of officers that was elected
were: Pete Romero, Rolex Ocampo, Ed Failanga, Cynthia Aliño,
Percy Palmes, Sydney Cometa, Jimmy Aliño, Arlo Mojado, and
Norrie Victoria. In October 1992, the constitution and by-laws of the
association was formally ratified and the same time new sets of
officers were elected with Bro. Henry Hugo as the second President,
Ariel de la Cruz, Panny Labao, Chona Villajuan, Cynthia Aliño,
Chito Faminial, Pete Romero, Ronnie Alegrid, Fred Lumilan, Rod
Panizares, Dan de Juan, Rudy Sibuma, and Rolex Ocampo. The Association
was officially incorporated with the Ministry of Consumer and
Commercial Relations on April 28, 1994 with a membership of 92.
Bro. Henry was succeeded
by Bro. Dan de Juan, who served from 1995 to 1996. Bro. Alex
Brillantes followed as president for the term of 1997-98. Serving
under a revised one-year term of office was Bro. Sidney Cometa who was
president for 1999. The president in the year 2000 was Bro. Chito
Faminial. In the year 2001 Bro. Jerry Villanueva became the
president. He was re-elected in the year 2002. Bro. Boyette
is elected as president for the year 2003.
The APO
(Phils.) Alumni Association of Toronto is one of the fourteenth members
of the APO (Phils.) Alumni Council of North America to wit: East Coast,
Houston, Dallas-Fort Worth, Midwest Chicago, Florida, Montreal,
Vancouver, Northern California, Nevada State, San Diego, Seattle,
Silicon Valley & Bay Area and Greater Los Angeles.
